Combined intra-articular and varus opening wedge osteotomy for lateral depression and valgus malunion of the proximal part of the tibia.

BACKGROUND Reconstructive surgical measures for treatment of posttraumatic deformities of the lateral tibial plateau are seldom reported on in the literature. We report the long-term follow-up results of a consecutive series of reconstructive osteotomies performed to treat depression and valgus malunions of the proximal part of the tibia. METHODS From 1977 through 1998, a combination of an in...

Intra-articular Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction With Extra-articular Lateral Tenodesis of the Iliotibial Band

An increasing concern has been given to the rotation stability of the knee in the setting of an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. This growing interest stems from a better understanding of the rotational stability of the knee afforded by the identification of the anterolateral ligament. Previously, a residual abnormal pivot-shift test had been found after an anatomic single-band ...

Ankle lateral ligament reconstruction for chronic instability.

PURPOSE To report the outcome of a technique combining direct anatomic reconstruction of the anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL) with augmented reconstruction using the peroneus brevis tendon fixed by a bio-absorbable interference screw. METHODS 13 men and 2 women aged 17 to 36 (mean, 24) years with recurrent inversion injuries of the right (n=5) and left (n=10) ankles underwent lateral ankl...

Surgical strategies: lateral ligament reconstruction as part of the management of varus ankle deformity with ankle replacement.

Improved designs and surgical technique has led to much better mid-term and longer term outcomes than the first generation ankle replacements of the 1970's. However, there remains multiple recent papers discussing the many potential complications with total ankle replacement surgery. As we proceed into the future, one should be cognizant of the pitfalls and know how to deal with the difficult a...

The Clinical Outcome of Simultaneous Lateral Closed- Wedge Distal Femoral Osteotomy and Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction in the ACL-deficient Knees with Symptomatic Femoral Varus Deformity

Background: Nowadays combined high tibial osteotomy and ACL reconstruction is accepted as a safe and effectivesurgery for patients with symptomatic varus osteoarthritis and anterior knee instability; however, the source of varusdeformity is sometimes the femoral bone. No studies have reported concomitant ACL reconstruction and distal femoralosteotomy in ACL-deficient knees wit...
